The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) welcomes the announcement of the provisional government by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) to transfer sovereignty to the people of Iran based on its president-elect Maryam Rajavi's ten-point platform for a free and democratic Iran that has widespread support in both Houses of the UK Parliament. We recognise this as a historic step to secure and deliver on the Iranian people’s democratic aspirations.

The Iranian people, led by their organised resistance, have paid a heavy price and made great sacrifices for freedom since the religious tyranny usurped their democratic revolution in 1979. Through recent nationwide uprisings, they have unequivocally expressed their desire for a free, secular, and democratic republic, firmly rejecting both religious tyranny and a return to the Shah’s dictatorship.

The death of regime’s Supreme Leader Khamenei heralds a pivotal moment, the beginning of the end for a religious tyranny that has ruled Iran with repression and terrorism and that is showing its true destructive nature by bring death and chaos to the region today. This new chapter offers the Iranian people a vital opportunity to reclaim their nation and build the democratic republic they envision.

We strongly reaffirm Maryam Rajavi’s statement that only the Iranian people can and must decide Iran's future. Iranians stand united in their pursuit of a democratic revolution and have the organisation, means, and determination to realise a prosperous future.

The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) urges the UK Government and the International Community to support the Iranian people and recognise and engage directly with the NCRI’s provisional government, ensuring their success in establishing a democratic republic and securing free and fair elections for the Iranian people to elect their future leaders. We also urge the UK Government to close the Iranian regime's embassy in London and expel all regime diplomats from the UK.

While the path ahead is fraught with challenges, we believe that a democratic transformation in Iran is within reach. We stand with the Iranian people and the provisional government in their quest for a free and democratic Iran.
