When, at the end of March, the Iran nuclear negotiations were approaching the deadline for a framework agreement, there was some speculation about whether a breakthrough would refocus some of the world’s attention on the issue of Iran’s abysmal record of human rights violations. But, as near as I can tell, this did not happen.

With weeks to go until the June deadline for nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 (or EU3+3), the prospects for a final agreement seem as doubtful as ever. The Iranian negotiators, who have long since developed a reputation for stalling the process and periodically revising their demands and statements, are already pushing the idea that the talks could extend beyond June 30.
Moral cohesion from local combatants requires moral clarity from the West.
