Statement by Prof. Lord Alton of Liverpool on behalf of the British Committee for Iran Freedom on the International People’s Tribunal in London, also known as Aban Tribunal in Iran:

The International People’s Tribunal in London on the second anniversary of the November 2019 crackdown on nationwide protests in Iran is a welcome and significant step to ensure ending the systematic impunity that regime leaders and officials have enjoyed for committing atrocities.

The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) strongly condemns the regime in Iran for its brutal crackdown and attack on the nationwide protests over water shortages and stands in solidarity with the people and farmers in Isfahan and other cities and provinces across Iran who are demanding their right to water.

It is with great shock and sadness that we learned of the passing of Sir David Amess MP, the co-chairman of the British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) after being stabbed in a constituency meeting in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex.

Sir David Amess MP, the co-chairman of the British Committee for Iran Freedom at the Free Iran gathering in support of a free and democratic Iran

The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) condemns this vicious attack, which was an assault not only on Sir David, but also on democracy in the UK. We extend our condolences to his family, wife and children. Our thoughts and prayers are with them, his staff and parliamentary colleagues at this difficult time.

The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) strongly condemns the regime in Iran for firing rockets and shelling areas accommodating Iranian refugees and Kurdish groups in the Iraqi Kurdistan region. The reports reveal attacks on civilians and innocent people, in violation of international law and the ceasefire between Iran and Iraq (UN Security Council Resolution 598). The Supreme Leader, Khamenei, also commander-in-chief of the regime's armed forces, is directly responsible for these attacks.
