Statement issued by the British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom:
{mosimage}In the early hours of the morning of Friday 8 February, the terrorist Qods force of Iran's Revolutionary Guards used hundreds of kilograms of TNT explosives to blow up the water pumping station that delivers water to the 4,000 or so PMOI members resident in Ashraf City, as well as many villages in the surrounding area.
This follows the terrorist assassination a few days ago of Sheikh Hamid Ziab who was responsible for the security of the pumping station. He was killed by the death squads of the Qods Force.
The British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom, which enjoys the support of a majority of MPs and more than 200 Peers, condemns in the strongest possible terms the terrorist plots of the Iranian regime and its Qods force against the residents of Ashraf City who enjoy the status of 'protected persons' under the Fourth Geneva Convention.
The PMOI also enjoy the support of 5.2 million Iraqis who recognise their political asylum while condemning the abhorrent crimes of the Iranian regime against the Iraqi people and general interference in the affairs of their country.
The Committee also wishes to make very clear to the authorities responsible for the security of the civilian population of Ashraf City, including the Multi-National Force Iraq and the Iraqi government, that Parliamentarians and lawyers around the world will firmly hold them to their obligations under international law. In particular, they must take all necessary steps to ensure the immediate restoration of the water supply to Ashraf City and its surrounding villages.
This Committee also calls on all international humanitarian organisations, including the relevant organs of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross to take the necessary steps to guarantee the rights of the residents of Ashraf City, as protected by international law.
Lord Corbett of Castle Vale
Chairman,
British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom
