The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) condemns the hanging of political prisoners Behrouz Ehsani, 70, and Mehdi Hassani, 48, by the Iranian regime on Sunday morning. Both of them were sentenced to death on charges of membership in the democratic opposition group, the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI).
We also condemn the violent raid by armed special forces on the ward housing political prisoners in Qezelhessar Prison a day earlier to take the victims to solitary confinement for execution and forcibly transfer political prisoner Saeed Massouri to Zahedan Prison.

The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) is alarmed over the increasing threat of mass executions of political prisoners, human rights activists and political dissidents in Iran, as the regime uses the conflict as a pretext to further criminalise dissent and crush organised opposition.
Last week, Iran's judiciary sentenced three political prisoners, Farshad Etemadi-Far, Masoud Jamei, and Alireza Mardasi (Hamidavi), each to not one but two death sentences. They were charged with “enmity against God (moharebeh),” “gathering and collusion against national security,” “membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organisation of Iran (PMOI/MEK),” and “propaganda against the regime.”

In a meeting held in Parliament today, cross-party members from both Houses, legal experts, and representatives of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and Anglo-Iranian associations came together to call for a decisive shift in the UK’s policy on Iran.
The event—titled “The Third Option by Iran’s People and Resistance”—comes in the wake of the twelve-day war and growing concerns that further escalation could plunge the Middle East into a broader conflict, with serious consequences for regional stability and global peace and economy.
Speakers emphasised that the root cause of regional instability lies in the Iranian regime’s terrorism and destabilising policies, and that the only viable path to peace and stability is to support the Iranian people’s aspiration for democratic change.
