At a conference in the House of Commons today, members from both Houses of Parliament called on the Government to act on its previous statements to counter Iran’s disruptive influence in the Middle East; and to proscribe its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a terrorist organisation answerable only to “The Supreme Leader”.

The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) condemns the Iranian authorities’ inhumane treatment of the elderly human rights defender, former president of the University of Tehran, Dr Mohammad Maleki, preventing him from travelling abroad to seek life-saving medical treatment and visit his children.

The longest suffering victims of Iran's leaders are, in fact, its own people

The UN Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Iran, Ms Asma Jahangir, in her latest interim report (A/72/322) drew attention to the deteriorating human rights situation in Iran as well as the impunity enjoyed by Iranian officials involved in the “1988 massacre”. In a matter of a few months, some 30,000 political prisoners were executed. Some of the perpetrators are holding key positions in Iran today.

The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) applauds the brave political prisoners in Gohardasht prison (Raja’i Shahr prison) who enter their second month of hunger strike in protest at the dreadful conditions and repressive measures they are forced to endure in prison.
